nerds rock… part 3

I have a confession.  Don’t tell anyone…. ummmm…. but… uh… I listen to the radio. *Record stops, gasps fill the air*.  Actually it’s quite alright, I listen to NPR.  National Public Radio.

"Nerd Public Radio"

Y’all were worried I would say I was listening to Drake, Minaj, Flocka and ‘nem.  Surely you jest.  I have been a loyal NPR listener for the past 10 years or so.  It all started when I lived in a strange, strange house with 3 even stranger roomates.  There was me who at the time who was a diva, permed head, makeup piling NCCU college student, a peppy, granola-eating, Birkenstock wearing white girl, a comic book obsessed white guy resembling Grizzly Adams, and a hilarious, sarcasm loving Puerto Rican guy.

We were like Joesphine Baker's Rainbow Tribe.

Quite a strange configuration of roommates, but it worked like a colorful well oiled machine.  Anyway, our unifying elements in the house were watching “Goodfellas” (*shrug*), ingesting copious amounts of liquor, cereal eating around the clock,  and all-day NPR listening.   I told you it was weird.

Ever since that special living situation I have been hooked to NPR.  I love everything from their very serious news stories, heart wrenching human-interest stories, and their ridiculous weekend lineup.  However, I especially love the weekend ridiculous.  One of the shows I love is  “Car Talk.”

they crack me up...

Now you wonder why I would like a show talking about cars, I could actually care less about cars.  That is the beauty of this show, you probably like it more if you don’t care about cars.  Folks call in with a question about car trouble they have and the hosts (Tom and Ray Magliozzi) address the issue.  The thing is the hosts are incredibly silly, corny even, but so corny that it is hilarious.  Nothing like corny hilarious on a Saturday morning.

There also is a show called Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me, it is an hour-long quiz-show about current events.  This especially appeals to the nerd in me.  Anything dealing with competing with your intelligence makes me happy.  They also throw in some more corny hilarity and love the wonderful world of double entendres.  It makes me happy that it is sometimes irreverent, I love it!

good times...

I will not confirm nor deny if I was listening to NPR last night eating chili and drinking liquor.  Mind your business.  Anyway, my loyal 10’s of readers, do any of you listen to NPR?
