nerd-gasms…

nerd-gas-m

Derives from the word orgasm. When someone has experienced just too much nerdiness at one time, they are said to have a nerdgasm

I am an out and proud nerdtastic individual.  Viva la me and my cohorts!  The latest thing to stimulate nerdgasms is the show I have discovered, “The Big Bang Thoery.”  Yes, extreme late pass for me seeing that it has been on 4 seasons.  Oops, I usually am not a fan of tardiness, pardon me.  Definitely peep the show some time, it is truly a gem.

The above picture is a scene from the show.  Anyway, I just wanted to let you check out  my nerds rock series that I had earlier this year.  Please enjoy!

All Words EVERYTHING! Day 2: penchant

As you all know I am a big ol’ nerd. The bigest part of my “nerddom” is my love of words and reading. I thought it would be fun every day that (Monday-Friday) we should learn a new word or brush up on some old vocabulary we may have forgotten. I will present a word with its definition, then we will try to write the silliest most ridiculous sentences you can come up with. Foolishness and learning are a match made in hell heaven. This will be fun. Some days I may even write a silly haiku with the words. Please join in, I promise it will be loads of fun. Second word y’all, write you silly sentence or haiku in the comments:

penchant

\ PEN-chunt \  , noun;

1. Inclination; decided taste; a strong liking.

Origin:

Penchant comes from the present participle of French pencher “to incline, to bend,” from (assumed)Late Latin pendicar, “to lean,” from Latin pendere , “to weigh.”

I have a penchant for North Carolina.

my silly sentence:

My Big Pun Remix: I’m not a player, I just have a penchant for crushing.

Yesterday’s Word of the Day was dendroid.

All Words EVERYTHING! Day 1: dendroid

First word y’all, write you silly sentence or haiku in the comments:

nerds rock… part 3

I have a confession.  Don’t tell anyone…. ummmm…. but… uh… I listen to the radio. *Record stops, gasps fill the air*.  Actually it’s quite alright, I listen to NPR.  National Public Radio.

"Nerd Public Radio"

Y’all were worried I would say I was listening to Drake, Minaj, Flocka and ‘nem.  Surely you jest.  I have been a loyal NPR listener for the past 10 years or so.  It all started when I lived in a strange, strange house with 3 even stranger roomates.  There was me who at the time who was a diva, permed head, makeup piling NCCU college student, a peppy, granola-eating, Birkenstock wearing white girl, a comic book obsessed white guy resembling Grizzly Adams, and a hilarious, sarcasm loving Puerto Rican guy.

We were like Joesphine Baker's Rainbow Tribe.

Quite a strange configuration of roommates, but it worked like a colorful well oiled machine.  Anyway, our unifying elements in the house were watching “Goodfellas” (*shrug*), ingesting copious amounts of liquor, cereal eating around the clock,  and all-day NPR listening.   I told you it was weird.

Ever since that special living situation I have been hooked to NPR.  I love everything from their very serious news stories, heart wrenching human-interest stories, and their ridiculous weekend lineup.  However, I especially love the weekend ridiculous.  One of the shows I love is  “Car Talk.”

they crack me up...

Now you wonder why I would like a show talking about cars, I could actually care less about cars.  That is the beauty of this show, you probably like it more if you don’t care about cars.  Folks call in with a question about car trouble they have and the hosts (Tom and Ray Magliozzi) address the issue.  The thing is the hosts are incredibly silly, corny even, but so corny that it is hilarious.  Nothing like corny hilarious on a Saturday morning.

There also is a show called Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me, it is an hour-long quiz-show about current events.  This especially appeals to the nerd in me.  Anything dealing with competing with your intelligence makes me happy.  They also throw in some more corny hilarity and love the wonderful world of double entendres.  It makes me happy that it is sometimes irreverent, I love it!

good times...

I will not confirm nor deny if I was listening to NPR last night eating chili and drinking liquor.  Mind your business.  Anyway, my loyal 10’s of readers, do any of you listen to NPR?

nerds rock. part 2

We shall continue on my foray into all things nerdy so check out nerds rock 1 to get an idea of what you are dealing with.  Sidebar: Actually what is a nerd?  I don’t want to get off on a rant now, but what are nerds exactly?  Well since I love to research, let’s see what the dictionary has to say about the subject:

nerds

[nurd]  Show IPA

–noun Slang .

1.
a stupid, irritating, ineffectual, or unattractive person.
I don’t like this one so I am crossing it out.  why? because it my prerogative. no Bobby.
2.
an intelligent but single-minded person obsessed with a nonsocial hobby or pursuit: a computer nerd.

ugh. really?  The dictionary is bullsh*t, at least today it is. How dare they say such things about the most glorious folks who happen to walk on this spinning rock we call Earth.  Anyway, I am upset now so I will carry on, because that hurt my soul.

So in the last nerds rock post I expressed my undying affection for Scrabble.  Did you think the word love affair stopped there?  Surely you jest.  One of my other word addiction is crossword puzzles.  I am the freak that gets mad if a puzzle is too easy, the harder the better.  Wait, what?  That sounded so naughty.  Moving right along…  Actually, I am like that with any game.  I love competition even if it is with myself.  Wait, what?  That sounded naughty too.  Guess I am a naughty nerd.  Wait, that’s alliteration, awesome.  What was I talking about again?  Oh yeah, crossword puzzles.

I wish I had a certificate with arms & legs... that is trippy.

At my last job there was a group of 3 employees who would do the NY Times Crossword every morning.  Now they were a smart bunch and they would almost complete it, save 10 clues.  Everyday at lunch like clockwork I would come back and find the newspaper and  accompanying pen sitting on my desk.  Within 10 minutes I would return the puzzle back to them complete.  Nerdiness is fun in packs.  Us nerds are way more social than we get credit for. *grumble, grumble…stupid dictionary*

dell math puzzles and logic problems

All puzzles EVERYTHING!

Other than crossword puzzles I love all other types of word & number puzzles.  Give me a boring week and I will complete a whole book of puzzles without breaking a sweat.  I like that most nerd activities don’t require sweating and getting dirty.  It appeals to the girly in me.  Anyway, my favorite puzzle after crosswords are called Cross Sums.  They are a type of math puzzle.  Yes, I do math for fun.  I like to keep my mind sharp,  the better to cut folks with.  POW!

Cross Sums puzzles

it's like Soduku, but not... you have to add and sh*t.

In my search online for pictures I found out there is a World Puzzle Federation.

The World Puzzle Federation is an international organization dedicated to puzzles. It follows the Olympic standard, and brings together puzzlers from around the world for the annual World Puzzle Championship (WPC).

I am intrigued and excited, I can hardly contain myself. Viva la Nerds!
