Poetic Melodies: The Brand New Heavies

F*ck yeah!

Today’s Poetic Melodies is actually one of my favorite bands, The Brand New Heavies. Some of you may not know about them, but they have been around FOREVER and make some pretty delicious music. Enjoy:

evergreen, growing up but fading never
this is what our love became
free at last
free from all the pain and sorrow
never feel the hurt again

I had a picture of you in my head
It kept me warm when you were not there
You made me laugh made me feel like
A child to see your smile made everything worthwhile

I feel a glow when you are near
All of my doubt just disappear
But baby nothing stays the same
It’s such a shame

You’re lookin’ at a transformation
That’s brought about a change in me
Love’s a brand new situation, never have I felt so free

Trouble started when we don’t communicate
We’ll build our future now or we will seal our fate
Wasted energy on promises we break
We’ve wasted chances now but still it ain’t too late
There is a common goal we must realize
It’s time to make a change in how we live our lives
Let’s let love save the day

Dream on dreamer life gets in your way
If the life you live is a spinning top of pain then you can
Dream on dreamer life gets in your way
If ya live to learn you´ll be lucky one day

Please tell me you love them as much as I do!  What song did you like the best?

Blog Poetry Slam 55: Apology

It has been a long, long time sine I have posted a Blog Poetry Slam, but I was feeling in a poetry kind of mood and thought it would be appropriate…  So to recap, what is the Blog Poetry Slam?:

EveryTuesday I will put up a topic, word, or picture. Then I would like all the poets (well everyone actually) to pen a verse or two or ten about the particular subject or that fits with the picture posted. You can go in any kind of direction from the topic you see fit. It will be a good way to exercise your writing muscles and also to enjoy the work of others. Also feel free to drop the links to your blogs or websites so we can all get to know each other. Also, drop me emails to suggest topics or pictures (even songs).  So, I will start off with today’s topic, Apology, with a piece I already have written, I will write a new one in the comments with you guys.

apology letter that say I'm sorry

sometimes the hardest words to say... or hear

I wanted to write you a  poem so cliche…
So you would fall asleep in my arms
So I could stroke your face
And let my finger wipe away your anger
And hold you close enough for my apologies enter all of our cells through osmosis
For my tears to fall on your cheek
And the heat of your rage make them evaporate
Leaving only the salt of my sorries
To season this meal of forgiveness
So it would be palatable so you would receive it
Instead of biting your tongue to withhold I love yous
But… You are most articulate in your silence
You said more in those thoughtful gentle smiles
Than with your jubilant reports
But you wrote dissertations of despair
With your saddened, worried eyes
And your furrowed brow and scowl of disgust
that day…
sigh, that day.
Crashed on my shore of shame harder than any of those words
those words…
sigh, those words.
a silent high tide I’d like to think.
That day…
sigh, that day.
I thought your Medusa gaze would surely turn your thoughts to stone
Aimed at me to make me guilt’s martyr
Those silences were awkward…
but appropriate.
And I wish my silence could respond with sincere apologies
If only my eyes could let you know
How much I need you,
How much I want to make it up to you,
How much I love you….
But…. I am most articulate in my poetry
So this sorry is for you.

Post your apology poem in the comments!

stripped… [updated]

A snippet of a much longer very personal piece I am working on…   feedback is appreciated…. [originally posted 9-21-10 will continue updating until “finished.” Bold lines are the latest updates]

stripped bare....

we have fucked without guilt

without enjoyment

with pain and pleasure

….and of course

the regrets.

the bruises of men’s kisses has stained our skin

like red Kool-Aid

fucking is something that has guided us gently to that stage

in ghastly makeup

a calculated touch

lascivious glares

blocked our growth as humans

turned us in reverse

so the longer we stayed in the biz

the faster we wanted to regress into babies

crying in our mother’s arms.

futile wishes for a return to innocence.

return to the arms of mother’s who hate us now

because they see their failure in our eyes

looking for non existent validation

leaning on imaginary shoulders

wondering why we hit the ground each time

well it’s hard to see reality through blackened third eyes

swollen from life’s hard knocks

so we continue to stumble blindly through this maze

littered with deferred dreams and potential

going in circles…

around hope.

around greatness.

around poles.
