All Words EVERYTHING! : defenestrate

I haven’t done a word of the day in a while and I know you all are deeply saddened and distraught; I know I would be. So your geeky fantasy (me) is here to bring you multiple nerdgasms and pleasurable things to that effect. I am aware of my “extraness,” it is part of my charm… or lack thereof. I digress. Not familiar with the Word of the Day challenge? Well, it is very easy. We will all make a sentence and/or haiku out of the word of the day. PLEASE feel free to be silly and ridiculous, but you don’t have to be. I like doing word of the day because it is a fun way to expand your vocabulary and sometimes your foolishness. I endorse both. Have fun! Today’s word is:

defenestrate

[dee-fen-uh-streyt]

–verb (used with object), de·fen·es·trat·ed,de·fen·es·trat·ing.

to throw (a person or thing) out of a window.

50 Cent new hairstyle 2011 defenestrate

Fiddy, please defenestrate the Duke's texturizer kit immediately. Thanks, Management.

50 Cent should defenestrate his entire management and style team forthwith, they are not advising him well.  Bless his heart.

Your turn to make a sentence with defenestrate and  I am sure you can make one related to 50 Cent and his errant S-Curl.

nappy thoughts…

a poem  a day for National Poetry Month… oldie but goodie frotastic hair poem….

love peace nappiness

....& hair grease.

My thoughts are nappy,
Yeah, at times hard to manage,
But they are natural.
Always on the move, no time for relaxing…
Coils that intertwine, each strand unique.
Refusing to be straightened.
Thick and stubborn, yet soft and beautiful.
Not clouded with multiple chemicals….
Able to go through brainstorms without dodging the drops……

i love my nappy hair shirt

can't you tell?

All Words EVERYTHING! Day 6: absquatulate

As you all know I am a big ol’ nerd. The bigest part of my “nerddom” is my love of words and reading. I thought it would be fun every day that (Monday-Friday) we should learn a new word or brush up on some old vocabulary we may have forgotten. I will present a word with its definition, then we will try to write the silliest most ridiculous sentences you can come up with. Foolishness and learning are a match made in hell heaven. This will be fun. Some days I may even write a silly haiku with the words. Please join in, I promise it will be loads of fun. Sixth word y’all, write your silly sentence, short poem, or haiku in the comments:

absquatulate

PRONUNCIATION:
(ab-SKWOCH-uh-layt)
MEANING:
verb intr.: To leave in a hurry; to flee.

ETYMOLOGY:
A Mock-Latinate formation, from ab- (away) + squat + -ulate (as in congratulate). First cited from the late 1830s.

naomi campbell edges

Only you can prevent forest fires and absquatulating edges!

my silly sentence:

Naomi Campbell’s edges have absquatulated from her hairline with no sign of returning.

Naturally Alise’s Blog Poetry Slam 4: Hair

Hey everyone! First off I want to thank everyone that participated in last week’s slam, it was very fun and the submissions were great. I love reading poetry as much as I love writing it. This week I hope for even more lovely poems to read. To tell you the rules for newcomers: I will present a word/theme AND picture. Write a poem (no matter how short or long, serious or silly) that:

Uses or relates to the word/theme
OR
Relates to the picture

Isn’t that simple! After the word and picture will be my poem for an example of what to do. I will write a new piece in the comments along with you guys!

HAIR

My thoughts are nappy,
Yeah, at times hard to manage,
But they are natural.
Always on the move, no time for relaxing…
Coils that intertwine, each strand unique.
Refusing to be straightened.
Thick and stubborn, yet soft and beautiful.
Not clouded with multiple chemicals….
Able to go through brainstorms without dodging the drops……

Your turn!

They Say…

*Baldheaded me*

Living my life by other people’s rules was like listening to wack ass hip hop (read: radio) when there is so much good music out there that is not neccesarily the most popular, the poem coming up speaks to that, I have had a trying evening dealing with judgmental people telling me what beauty is and what it ain’t, what success really means and what it ain’t….. le sigh…… but I don’t care anymore what “They Say”, so I’m good, real good:

You have finally faced the music
Cut through the overproduction,
Pushed through the synthesized keys and unlocked your destiny
Swam against the tide of superflous watered down beats
Escaped the trap of snares…
Came up and breathed in the pure air of lyrics.

Unearthed what lie beneath and between the lines.

Found the treasures of knowledge in each syllable…..
