Blog Poetry Slam 51: Work

I am a huge fan of PostSecret, and the picture below is a postcard from a few weeks ago on the site.  It spoke to my job hunting frustration, so I decided to base my poem on that frustration.  This week’s writing topic will be “Work”.  So post your best poem regarding your current job, the job of your dreams, your frustration with unemployment, or find a direction of your own.  Post your poems in the comments.  Your poem can be short or long, silly or serious, even a haiku.  My poem will follow the picture.

i used to hate when people said
“well at least you have a job”
and now that i don’t
i still hate it
i am poor
i am sometimes frustrated
but strangely
the happiest i have ever been
but i
still wish
someone

would call me back

Blog Poetry Slam 50: “All the world’s a stage…”

All the world's a stage,And all the men and women merely players:They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts,

~William Shakespeare, “As You Like It”

I love that passage. So, I thought today’s blog poetry slam should be related to the stage. Write a poem related to the above passage (literally or figuratively) in the comments. Your poem can be silly or serious, long or short, or not a poem at all. If you are not a poet write what the quote brings to mind or a situation that relates to it. This is for everybody! Can’t wait to see your work, my poem will be posted below:

Act I:

i loved you more than any other

Act II:
in fact loved you enough to let you go
i hated misery enough to part company
loved me enough to bid you adieu
and exit stage left
and start another stage

Act III:

a life without you
is painful
but a life with you hurts us both
and since i love you
it means i can’t bear to see you hurting.
so there will be no encore
no curtain calls.
show’s over.

Blog Poetry Slam 49: Fire

Today’s Blog Poetry Slam topic is fire.  Be a cool kid and write a poem in the comments!  Your poem can be short or long, silly or serious, or even a simple haiku.  After the picture I have written 2 poems for the topic.  Can’t wait to see your hot fire poems.  (Bad pun, sorry, lol)

i keep lighting fires
because im scared of what i will see…
when the smoke clears
and i’m scared
everything will be destroyed
[especially those bridges]
and i’ll be stuck on this side of depression…
forever.

haiku:

Why am I so hot?
I write poems on matchbooks…
So they are fire!

Blog Poetry Slam 47: No Rules (Guest Poet: Taahira)

Today’s blog poetry slam is being brought to you by my favorite teenager on the planet, Taahira, she has a tumblr blog by the name of Urban Rag Doll. She is the daughter of one of my dearest friends The PBG of the blog Dirty Pretty Thangs. She has raised a great kid! She often surprises me with little gems in the form of poetry or anecdotes that always brighten my day. This time she sent a poem that I thought was extra clever, hope you enjoy it too!  Because of her poem today, just write a poem about anything in any form you want… NO RULES!!!  (Only rule is to post your poem in the comments…)

I had to write a sonnet for english class. I told my teacher I didn’t like writing poems with rules.  So I made a poem about forced poetry isn’t real art.

Fake art is insanity
It’s backwards
Like sailors without profanity
False feelings? Those should be your last words

Fabricating imagination is a mockery
A Sham!
What is this tomfoolery?
It’s a Scam

Falsified craftsmanship is craziness
My hatred for you posers is immense
Where is your inventiveness?
The grudge I hold is intense

Your words are balderdash
Your synthetic rhymes: trash
