Do you remember the Budweiser series of posters “Black Kings and Queens of Africa”? This was brought back to my memory from a tweet by @SistaToldja a few days ago. How about I had ALL 30 of the posters on my bedroom walls growing up. I know you are jealous that my childhood was so charmed and classy! Don’t be mad your mama ain’t get you all edu-muh-cated by the alcohol corporations. (We were fancy.) Regardless of the ridiculousness of it being presented by Budweiser I still learned a lot and gained a lot of pride from those posters. Each poster had a synopsis of the contribution made to history by the particular king and/or queen.
Below are some of my favorite posters:
My favorite (Although it scared me a little) was Hannibal. I thought it was dope that he had elephants all up in the mix… Hannibal – Ruler of Carthage 2nd Century BC :
You couldn’t tell me Nefertiti& Akhenaton weren’t my great(x20)-grandparents. In fact, you still can’t tell me otherwise… Akhenaton – Pharaoh of Egypt 14th Century BC:
Oh you think you the Queen of Sheba or something? Well Makeda really was…. Makeda – Queen of Sheba 10th Century BC :
This is the lovely Nzingha – Amazon Queen of Matamba, West Africa 17th Century AD, I know she has to be my cousin, we favor. I got African in my fammmm-leeeeee.

Yes I remember wow .. you brought it back
